There's a Player #15 in all of us: we get frustrated when we do not win. But is the dream over?
March 5, 2025

I saw a man crying over a basketball ball.

I don’t remember his name anymore.

But he is Player #15.

Disclaimer: This isn’t your non-fan NBA Finals pre-talk.

Years ago, I was in a waiting line and the TV was on. It was the NBA Western Conference Finals between GSW and the Houston Rockets. It’s Game 7 – go win or go home.

As it turned out, Houston had another problem.

And one player, Player #15 on the jersey, felt the problem. (Note to my men friends, I don’t know this guy, so please just supply the name. Thank you and hugs to your wives or girlfriends.)

I saw the guy crying as he went inside their expected gloomy dugout.

Some non-ball fans would say, “He could just get himself his own ball instead of fighting for one.”

It’s not that easy.

I guess that just like any other team member, Player #15 gave his all throughout the conference. Heck, they wouldn’t make the finals if they didn’t.

But I also think he’s sick and tired of being in the finals and not winning. Sick and tired of being a bridesmaid.

I know that you’ve had times when you think you know what you’re doing. That this is the right way to go. That you will get your goals on time.

Then suddenly, confusion comes in. The right way isn’t really the right way, and the goals just got a little more extension.

It’s so frustrating you want to cry.

The one thing that would get you through is to keep on trying. Keep on persisting. Keep the courage. Keep the faith.

Because there is no other way.

So to all the Player #15’s in all of us: It’s so damn frustrating, and it’s not a joke. But stand up and keep on. You’re goal, your dream – is just around the corner.

You’re getting close.
