A question was posted in one of the Facebook Groups I belong to:
What are your tips and strategies that you may want to share to prevent getting a possible toxic client?
The question came out of a concern that due to the pandemic that everyone is facing, it was noticed that there is an increase of low baller paying clients.
Is it? Anyway, here’s my take.
No matter what the situation is, hindi dapat ito magbabago: Dapat kilala mo ang gusto mong client.
You do not go in an interview. You are scheduling a strategy call. So hindi sila ang unang magtatanong sa iyo. IKAW ang magtatanong.
It will always be the MINDSET SHIFT that makes the difference between getting a toxic client or not.
It’s also how CLEAR you are sa ideal client mo. You need to identify them beforehand.
For instance, I don’t like working for people who:
1. Want me to be awake on their time zone
2. Full-time work
3. Hindi naniniwala sa slow and patient process ng social media marketing
4. Micro-manager (ultimate red flag!)
Pwede din namang the other way around ang pagi-identify ng ideal client eh. Start with “I am working with awesome clients who are…”
Here’s a tip when going into a strategy or discovery call: Have a list of questions for the client.
Tell the client that you will ask the questions first. If the client says no, drop it. That is already a sign na hindi kayo bagay.
If he/she allows you, ask questions. Once you are done, then he/she can ask you questions.
